
- Full Name :Nipa Shah
Chicago indian Community knows Nipa Shah as a very versatile singer, volunteer and a bold writer who is not shy from expressing her views and firm stand on the issues when it comes to social debates.
- Music is her passion. She started her professional solo Bollywood performances on stage at the age of 5. She received her vocal training in Hindustani classical music from Smt. Madhuri Khare of Gwalior gharana. She performed in over 400 Bollywood, Garba, and Gujarati Sugam Sangeet gigs by the time she was in high school, working with very renowned Gujarati musician Shri Dipesh Desai, in his Children’s band. She recorded for Doordarshan and Akashvani on regular basis while she was in India. She pursued her passion of Gujarati Sugam sangeet and folk music throughout the school years and also received training under leading Gujarati music director Shri Gaurang Vyas.
- After winning most popular votes for her semi-classical song ‘mere Dholna’ and being first runner up at Chicago Indian Icon contest hosted by IEM in 2013, she has been actively pursuing second inning of her music career after 17 years break in USA. In this short amount of time, she has sang at more than 200 shows with renowned Bollywood and local artists for various organizations and occasions. Due to her hard work, dedication and caring personality, she has become a highly sought after face for any music related needs for Desi community-not only around Chicago but across USA.
- She is an engineer by profession and has earned her masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. She manages team of engineers on site and in India and is equally involved in her field contributing by her articles and providing technical training.
- She is an artist in true sense who loves art in any form be it writing, cooking or teaching Gujrati folk dance steps. She writes poems, songs and she articles social or political articles for various media houses/news papers. She loves putting colors on canvass or making appetizing fusion food presenting colorful medley of vegetables in the plate. Yes, she is a foodie, a very passionate cook and an excellent host herself.
- She volunteers her time for any need of the society whether it is for seniors, children, community or religious events. She is very active when it comes to the topics pertaining children like adoption, autism and mental health. She volunteers for ailing seniors at rehab centers or home to chant BhagwadGeeta or sing Bhajans for them helping in soothing their pain with music. She makes herself available wherever there is a need of helping hand for any non-profit and truly social events for any organizations. Despite being a full time mother of a teenage daughter and a full-time engineer, she is there at the call of need for a volunteer – mostly working behind the scenes not looking for publicity and touching lives and making a difference.
Singer, writer, volunteer, emcee, garba choreographer, music shows organizer/coordinator and much more – Nipa is a real entertainer representing today’s professional woman who wears multiple hats yet maintain work-life balance effectively. After being one of the most popular singer/music show coordinator in Chicago in last 4 years, She has become an inspiration for many women who wants to pursue their passion that there is no age to get started again.
